The Salon will feature a curator-led exhibition walkthrough and an exclusive 'first look' of Phillips' new lower galleries at 450 Park Avenue.
Phillips 'First Look' is curated by contemporary art head of sale, Amanda Stoffel, who specializes in spotting works by some of the freshest names to the contemporary auction market.
She will discuss the value of discovering and supporting emerging artists at auction and present highlights from the Contemporary Art Day Sale at Phillips taking place on 12 November.
A word from the curator:
In "First Look" at Phillips, the artists we will explore include Sam Falls, Brendan Fowler, Ryan Sullivan, Eileen Quinlan, Mark Flood, Nate Hylden, and perhaps a few spontaneous additions. As we navigate the new Phillips galleries and the specific works therein, we will begin to deconstruct not only the work but its inclusion in this particular sale and in the general marketplace.
The work of these artists is process-based—by this we mean to say that the end product derives as much meaning from the method of its making as from its finished visual impact. In our discussion, this will be our lens for exploring the place of emerging artists at auction and the significance of this exciting market.
