Please join us for an intimate conversation between artist Cybele Lyle and curator/writer Aaron Harbour at Lyle's Oakland studio.
Lyle will have a number of new works on display. In addition, her studio is in Real Time and Space, which is home to a number of wonderful local artists including Lana Williams, Carrie Hott, Emma Spertus, Conrad Guevara, Amy Ho and James Sterling Pitt. Time permitting, attendees will be offered the chance to peek through the building guided by Aaron Harbour.
Lyle has had work in recent exhibitions at KALA in Berkelty, the San Francisco Art Commission, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, The Reinstitute in Baltimore, and will be part of a retrospective of past graduates from Hunter College in New York.
Her work is a hybrid of photography, sculpture, and video, with her most recent series of works finding the artist using silkscreen techniques to make wonderful new works combining elements of architecture and landscape photography into beautiful, colorful, evocative images in layers of bright inks. In her solo show at Et al., these works hung on the wall while throughout the gallery a large site-specific open wooden structure cut the space in a unique way. The show at was written about on Art Slant and KQED's art blog.
Host Aaron Harbour is a curator who, along with curating at other venues throughout the bay area, co-directs Et al. gallery, and writes for a number of publications include Fillip Magazine, SFAQ, Art Practical, and Decoy Magazine.
